spiced poach pears

These poached pears are the perfect treat on a cold night.

ingredients

  • 1/2 bottle rose

  • 1/4 cup sugar

  • 4 pears, pealed (preferably bosc)

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

  • 1 teaspoon cloves

  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

  • 1/2 teaspoon all spice

steps

  1. simmer. Combine rose, sugar, and 1 cup water in saucepan large enough to hold pears.

  2. when sugar dissolves, add pears, vanilla, and spices. Simmer for 30 minutes or until pears are tender.

    1. pro tip 1: I like to slice the bottom of the pear to create a flat bottom. This helps them sit nicely in the pan.

    2. pro tip 2: I do not prefer to core the pears. I do not mind eating around the seeds. And I love the classic look of the stem. You can easily core the pears, if you prefer. Just know this increases the surface area of the pear thus it will bake faster. Check it 10 minutes early.

  3. remove pears from liquid. While the pears are cooling, continue to reduce the liquid until it is about a cup.

  4. plate pears. divide the liquid amongst the pears.

enjoy!
